DESCRIPTION:About the Exhibition: GRIOT casts contemporary artists as vita
 l members of their communities. The griots of West Africa have historical
 ly carried the stories of their communities\, asking "Where have we been?
  What have we accomplished?" They could also carry a word of warning\, as
 king "What are we becoming? Haven't we learned this lesson yet?" Working 
 in painting\, sculpture\, photography\, textile and other media\, the art
 ists of GRIOT are storytellers who are each remembering\, reflecting\, cr
 itiquing\, praising\, celebrating\, dreaming and encouraging. The exhibit
 ion is arranged in dialogues\, sections where the artworks pose similar q
 uestions. Visitors are invited to respond on site\, re-enacting the call 
 and response of a griot and their audience.\n\nAbout the Fair\nNow in its
  twelfth consecutive year\, AfriKin Art Fair is one of the most sought-af
 ter destinations during Miami Art Week for collectors acquiring work by e
 merging and established artists of African heritage. The fair is curated 
 by Joseph L. Underwood\, Ph.D.\, Associate Professor of Art History at Ke
 nt State University. In 2025\, the fair welcomed 8\,955 visitors and paid
  $97\,800 directly to participating artists. AfriKin has been featured in
  The New York Times\, the Associated Press\, Al Jazeera English\, NBC 6\,
