American Airlines will fly nonstop from Miami International Airport to Barcelona starting Friday, Jan. 15, 2027. Not the Barcelona in Spain: this one is in eastern Venezuela, and American calls the route its first-ever service there. The airline announced the route on Oct. 16, and seats went on sale Monday, Oct. 19.
The schedule
The flights run three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, on an Embraer 175 regional jet with a premium cabin, Wi-Fi and in-seat power. American's published schedule:
- Miami to Barcelona (BLA): leaves MIA at 10:15 a.m., arrives at 2:52 p.m.
- Barcelona to Miami: leaves BLA at 3:32 p.m., arrives at 6:19 p.m.
Times are Eastern, as American lists them. Tickets are sold on aa.com and in the American Airlines app.
Where Barcelona is
Barcelona is in eastern Venezuela, and American's announcement describes it and nearby Puerto La Cruz as major commercial and industrial centers.
American's growing Venezuela map
The route is the third Venezuelan destination American serves from Miami. The airline already flies to Caracas twice a day and to Maracaibo daily. With Barcelona added, American says it will operate 24 weekly flights between the United States and Venezuela.
Earlier this year, American became the first U.S. airline since 2019 to resume service to Venezuela, and when Caracas reopened to international flights it was the first U.S. carrier back with daily service there.
Door to door
By the published times, the southbound flight takes about four and a half hours, and the return lands back at MIA a little after 6 p.m. the same day, so the aircraft turns around in Barcelona in about 40 minutes.
