Two Americans who rose into the ATP's Top 20 this season, Learner Tien and Brandon Nakashima, have committed to the Delray Beach Open for its 35th anniversary tournament, Feb. 12 to 21, 2027. The tournament announced them on Oct. 22, along with something closer to home: a three-day event in Delray Beach this November that will send one player straight into the qualifying draw.
The wildcard event at ProWorld
The DBO Wildcard Event, hosted by HotelPlanner Tour, runs Nov. 28 to 30 at ProWorld Academy, 651 Egret Circle, Delray Beach. It will award one singles qualifying wildcard. The winner earns a place in the Delray Beach Open qualifying rounds, which begin Feb. 13. Event details and entry are on the UTR Sports event page, app.utrsports.net/events/399556, and the tournament takes questions by email through DelrayBeachOpen.com.
Two Next Gen champions
Tien, 20, climbed to No. 12 in the ATP Rankings in August. He won the Next Gen ATP Finals in 2025, the season-ending event for the top eight players aged 20 and under, and also won the title in Metz, France, that year. This season he added a clay title in Geneva in May, reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, made the semifinals of the Masters 1000 in Montreal and the quarterfinals at Indian Wells. He is coached by Michael Chang, a 34-time title winner and a member of the Delray Beach Open Wall of Fame. Delray in February will be his third appearance; he reached the quarterfinals there this year.
Nakashima, 25, won the Next Gen ATP Finals in 2022 and climbed to No. 16 after this year's US Open. He was the winningest player of the ATP's summer hardcourt swing, going 12-3, including a final at the Masters 1000 in Montreal and semifinals in Cincinnati and Washington, D.C. The San Diego native won his first ATP title at his hometown event in 2022 and has reached four other finals. He has twice been a quarterfinalist in Delray Beach, and 2027 will be his fifth appearance.
Past winners of the Next Gen Finals include Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
Who else is coming
The pair join Taylor Fritz, who committed earlier this month as he goes for a third Delray Beach title. Fritz, currently No. 12, owns 11 career titles and reached four finals in 2026.
Opening weekend, Feb. 12 to 14, is the Legends Event, with Andy Roddick, Bob and Mike Bryan, Tommy Haas, and Murphy and Luke Jensen among the players. Roddick, who made his professional debut in Delray Beach in 2000, will be inducted into the tournament's Walk of Fame after his Legends match on the evening of Feb. 12. The Delray Beach Open Food and Wine Series returns for its eighth year, with restaurants, food purveyors and spirit partners from across South Florida.
The tournament says the 2026 field was the strongest in its history, with eight players ranked inside the Top 30. Sebastian Korda beat Tommy Paul in an all-American final.
