Downtown Delray Beach Restaurant Month officially wrapped on September 30, but fifteen spots in and around Atlantic Avenue are still serving their September deals this month, from a $65 prix fixe at Hyde Park Prime Steakhouse to a $17 Lebanese sandwich combo two blocks east of Swinton Avenue. The Downtown Development Authority's Restaurant Month page now lists every restaurant carrying its offer into October, and most of them are holding it all month.
What Restaurant Month was, and what is left of it
For all of September, the Delray Beach Downtown Development Authority ran its annual Restaurant Month, with more than 50 restaurants, cafes and fast casual counters offering multi-course prix fixe menus, happy hour specials, cafe discounts and wine pairing dinners. It is one of the DDA's signature events, run by the same organization behind Savor the Avenue in March, and it lands before the seasonal crowd arrives, which makes it as much a locals' event as a visitors' one.
The October list is shorter, fifteen names, but it is a useful cross-section of downtown. It runs from a white tablecloth steakhouse to a gelato counter, and from Pineapple Grove north of Atlantic to the blocks just short of the Intracoastal. One thing changed with the calendar: the free Restaurant Month mobile pass, which let diners check in and earn chances at gift cards, ended with September. To get the October deals you simply go to the restaurant and order them.
The dinner deals
The headline offer belongs to Hyde Park Prime Steakhouse at 601 E. Atlantic Ave., which describes itself as a fine dining steakhouse built around USDA Prime and American and Japanese Wagyu beef. Its Restaurant Month menu stays at $65 for a full prix fixe through October, which is the easiest way to try a room that is otherwise a special occasion splurge.
Italian has the deepest bench. Campi Italian on NE 2nd Avenue in Pineapple Grove keeps a $49 prix fixe with an optional $20 wine pairing. A few doors north, Lulu’s Cafe & Cocktails at 189 NE 2nd Ave. holds a $39 prix fixe. Both are Savor the Avenue regulars, so this is a fair preview of what they put on the long table in spring. On South Swinton Avenue, Jimmy’s Bistro is taking 15 percent off the entire check Monday through Thursday.
Avalon Beach House, upstairs at 110 E. Atlantic Ave., keeps a $45 prix fixe built from its char-grilled meats, local seafood and share plates, and its kitchen runs until 2 a.m. for anyone eating late. Dada on North Swinton Avenue offers a $39 prix fixe, and W XYZ Bar at Aloft Delray Beach on SE 5th Avenue has the lowest dinner price on the list at $25.
For something other than steak and pasta, Double Knot at 22 W. Atlantic Ave. continues its izakaya-style prix fixe, and Kapow Noodle Bar on SE 2nd Avenue, which pairs Southeast Asian cooking with a lounge, is carrying both a prix fixe and its happy hour deal.
Two that end at mid-month
Not every offer runs to Halloween. The two Amar restaurants have set October 15 as their cutoff, so these are the ones to do first. Amar Mediterranean Kitchen & Bar, on SE 6th Avenue just off Atlantic, serves modern versions of Lebanese and Mediterranean dishes and keeps a $45 prix fixe until the 15th. Its casual sibling, Amar Sandwich Shop at 522 E. Atlantic Ave., has a $17 sandwich combo through the same date. The shop bakes pita in a wood-burning oven and makes its own falafel and shawarma, and its za’atar sumac fries are the side people come back for.
Coffee, cheesesteaks and dessert
The smaller deals are the ones that fit into an ordinary week. Big Al’s Steaks at 450 E. Atlantic Ave. has a $50 cheesesteak meal for two. Carmela Coffee on SE 6th Avenue, an all-day brunch and coffee spot, takes 10 percent off. On the sweet end, Gelato & Co at 418 E. Atlantic Ave., which makes its gelato fresh daily with many ingredients sourced from Italy, is taking 20 percent off its gelato cakes, a handy thing to know before a birthday. And Polar Shake at 822 E. Atlantic Ave. runs buy one smoothie, get one half off.
How to use the list
A few practical notes. The prices above are the ones the DDA lists for each restaurant; menus, hours and fine print can vary, so it is worth mentioning the Restaurant Month offer when you book or sit down rather than assuming a server will bring it up. The Amar deals stop on October 15. Everything else is listed as running through October, which in practice means through the last weekend of the month, when Halloween events will make downtown busier.
The DDA keeps a downtown parking guide on the same site. Nearly the whole list sits on or within a block or two of Atlantic Avenue, between Swinton Avenue and the Intracoastal, so it is easy to pair dinner with an evening walk down the Avenue.
Why it matters if you live here
Restaurant Month lands in one of the quietest months of the year, and the October extension is a small gift to locals. In a few weeks the season starts, reservations get harder and the menus go back to full price. Right now, anyone in Delray Beach, Boynton Beach or Boca Raton can still sit down on Atlantic Avenue at a September price, at a Wagyu steakhouse, a Pineapple Grove trattoria or a Lebanese sandwich counter. The full list, with each restaurant's offer, is on the Downtown Delray Restaurant Month page.
