Doral's parks and arts center have a full week lined up, and most of it lands on Saturday, Oct. 24. That one day brings a free Fall Festival with a Trunk-or-Treat and a movie at Doral Central Park, a free morning pickleball clinic at Doral Glades Park, the Saturday farmers market and a mixed media art workshop downtown. Two days earlier, the Doral Cultural Arts Center hosts a $15 evening of painting alebrijes, the colorful Mexican folk art figures, which go on display at the city's Día de los Muertos celebration the following week.
Here is what is happening from Oct. 18 to 25, with times, places and prices from the City of Doral's own listings.
Thursday, Oct. 22: Paint your own alebrije
The city's Art After Dark series turns to Mexican folk art on Thursday, Oct. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Doral Cultural Arts Center, 8395 NW 53rd Street. Participants paint an alebrije with their own colors and patterns, and the city says no experience is needed. The cost is $15 per person, with registration through the City of Doral's Eventbrite page.
The finished pieces do not just go home. The city plans to display them at Life in Full Color, its celebration ahead of Día de los Muertos on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the arts center, with live mariachi music, food and drinks. That event is free, but registration was required and the city's Eventbrite listing already shows it as sold out, so painting an alebrije this Thursday is one way to have your work in the room. Parking for Art After Dark is free at the Doral Government Center garage, 8401 NW 53rd Terrace.
Saturday, Oct. 24: A free pickleball clinic
Baptist Health is presenting a free pickleball clinic on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Doral Glades Park, 7600 NW 98th Place. The Doral Pickleball Club leads the session. It is free, with registration online through the link on the city's event page.
Saturday, Oct. 24: Farmers market at Doral Central Park
The fall season of the Doral Central Park Farmers Market opened Oct. 17 and continues Saturday, Oct. 24, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Doral Central Park, 3005 NW 92nd Avenue. The city lists produce, prepared food, artisan goods and local vendors. Admission is free. After this weekend, the market returns on Oct. 31 and Nov. 7, 14 and 21.
Saturday, Oct. 24: A mixed media workshop with Perla S. González
Artist Perla S. González, a member of the Miami Watercolor Society, leads With Your Feet On The Ground, a mixed media workshop, on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Doral Cultural Arts Center, 8363 NW 53rd Street. Participants combine drawing, painting and collage into an original piece built around feet, movement and storytelling, with step-by-step instruction. All materials are included and all skill levels are welcome. The cost is $15, space is limited and registration is through the city's Eventbrite page. Parking is free at the City Hall garage, 8401 NW 53rd Terrace.
Saturday, Oct. 24: Fall Festival, Trunk-or-Treat and a movie
The evening event starts at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, at Doral Central Park. The City of Doral's Fall Festival is free and open to the public, and it runs on a set schedule through the evening:
