Compson Place at Renaissance Commons is bringing back Graze for Good, its evening dine-around that raises money for The Soup Kitchen. The event runs Tuesday, November 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $20, and every ticket supports the Boynton Beach nonprofit. Last year was the first Graze for Good. This second year adds something new: a food drive at the entrance.

How the evening works

Guests buy a ticket ahead of time, check in, and walk the open-air promenade at Compson Place. Restaurants along the way serve small plates, drinks and desserts. The shopping center has confirmed three restaurants so far: Cluck N Smash, Lemongrass and Sushi Sake. It says more will be announced before the event.

The event runs two hours. Guests set their own pace and move from one restaurant to the next. The listing calls it an in-person event, with refunds available up to seven days beforehand.

What is new this year

This year, guests are asked to bring a canned food item, a gift card to a local grocery store, or both. The donations will go toward local pantries as the holiday season begins. Compson Place's announcement credits Christie Starr of Stiles Property Management, the center's management agent, with the idea of building the food drive into the evening.

Marlene Mejia, chief executive officer of The Soup Kitchen, is named in the announcement as welcoming the nonprofit's return as beneficiary, with the food drive arriving as hunger relief heads into its busiest stretch of the year.

Who the money helps

The Soup Kitchen is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit on Boynton Beach Boulevard, just west of Florida's Turnpike and next to the Caridad Center. Its dining room serves meals from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Saturday. Food donations are accepted from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the same days.

The group also runs a Meals on Wheels program. It serves people who are homebound because of chronic or terminal illness, or who have trouble getting around because of age. Clients who qualify receive two home-delivered meals each weekday. Volunteer drivers drop them off between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Each delivery includes a hot meal with a protein, starch and vegetable, plus bottled water, bread, dessert or fruit, and half a sandwich with a snack for later in the day. The Soup Kitchen's site also lists culinary arts, wellness and job-related programs alongside its meal service.

The nonprofit's Upcoming Events page lists Graze for Good among its fall fundraisers. The listing gives the same date, time and $20 price, and links straight to the ticket page.
