Hallandale Beach's week runs mostly on Saturday and Sunday: a free Halloween night of candy stations and costumed characters at Gulfstream Park Village, an afternoon of Caribbean food and rum cocktails in Gulfstream Park's Flamingo Room, and a free reggae set on the sand at South City Beach Park. Here is what is happening in Hallandale Beach from Oct. 19 to 26, with times, prices and how to get there.

Saturday: Creepy Carnival Clowns at Gulfstream Park Village

Gulfstream Park Village holds its Creepy Carnival Clowns Halloween Celebration on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 7 to 10 p.m. It is free and open to the public.

The first hour is built for kids. From 7 to 8 p.m., themed candy stations are set up through the Village as an alternative to neighborhood trick-or-treating, and Gulfstream posts a treat map on the event page so families can plan a route. Families are encouraged to come in costume.

After the candy ends at 8, the night continues with a live DJ, performers and interactive characters, along with food trucks, outdoor bars and a beer garden.

Saturday: Taste at the Track, Rum and Caribbean

Earlier the same day, Gulfstream Park's Flamingo Room hosts Taste at the Track: Rum and Caribbean, an unlimited food and cocktail tasting held while live Thoroughbred racing runs on the track outside.

The food menu draws from across the Caribbean: Haitian griot with pikliz and poul nan sous, grilled jerk chicken wings with mango relish, curried goat, Puerto Rican tripleta sliders and pastelón, Trinidadian doubles and macaroni pie, and fried green plantains with garlic sauce, among other dishes.

The cocktail list pairs a rum brand with each drink, including a Papa's Pilar swizzle, a Ron Zacapa espresso martini, a Diplomático daiquiri, an Appleton Estate pineapple daiquiri, a Pusser's Painkiller and a Mount Gay Dark and Stormy.

Standard admission is $60 for 1 to 4 p.m. VIP is $85 and adds an hour, starting at noon, with priority seating. Tax and fees are extra, and guests must be 21 or older. Tickets are sold through the Gulfstream Park event page.

Saturday: Bingo for Books at the library

The Hallandale Beach Branch Library, 300 S. Federal Highway, runs Bingo for Books on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Winners take home books. It is free and open to all ages, with registration through Broward County Library and a cap of 50 players.

Sunday: Beach and Groove with Jah Steve and Counteract Crew

The city's free Sunday concert series, Beach and Groove, returns to South City Beach Park, 1870 S. Ocean Drive, on Sunday, Oct. 25, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. The city's series page and its flyer for the date list Jah Steve and Counteract Crew playing reggae. The series started in March, and the next date after this one is Nov. 22 with The Rumblestones.

Bring a blanket or a lawn chair. The city suggests leaving the car off the beach: park at Gulfstream Village behind the Pegasus statue and take the free Groovy Cloud Shuttle, which runs from an hour before the show until 30 minutes after. The city also offers an Uber code worth $10 off each way at coHB.org/GrooveUber.

Monday: Wags and Tales

Back at the Hallandale Beach Branch Library on Monday, Oct. 26, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., children ages 5 to 12 can practice reading aloud to two therapy dogs, Moki and Abby. It is free, first come, first served, with no registration.
