Twenty-five years ago, Hershey Felder premiered George Gershwin Alone at Palm Beach Dramaworks, a play the theater now describes as world-famous. On Oct. 30 he is back on Clematis Street with a different subject: himself. Hershey Felder: The Piano & Me runs at Palm Beach Dramaworks in downtown West Palm Beach through Nov. 22, a limited engagement the theater calls the most personal work he has made.
A new kind of Felder show
George Gershwin Alone put a composer's life onstage. This one turns the frame around. According to Palm Beach Dramaworks' page for the show, The Piano & Me is a new play with music in which Felder plays himself, along with the many people he has met over more than 30 years onstage who helped make his work possible. The theater describes it as the story behind that career.
The music in the show includes works by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Rachmaninoff and others.
Where it fits in the Dramaworks season
The Felder engagement is the second production of Palm Beach Dramaworks' season, per the theater's season listing. It follows the world premiere of ALBA by Alejandro Rodriguez, which closes Oct. 25, and comes ahead of another world premiere, Provenance, co-produced with Asolo Rep and running Dec. 11 to 27.
The theater bills Felder's run as a special limited engagement, and it is a short one: just over three weeks, from Friday, Oct. 30 to Sunday, Nov. 22.
