Hollywood's last full week of October runs on free admission. Between Friday, Oct. 23, and Friday, Oct. 30, the City of Hollywood has two family movie nights on the lawn at ArtsPark at Young Circle, a haunted house at a west side community center, a free hands-only CPR class at Memorial Regional Hospital and live bands every Wednesday through Sunday night on the Broadwalk. None of it needs a ticket, and most of it happens after dark.

A Rush Tribute and Six More Nights on the Broadwalk

The Hollywood Beach Theatre, the open-air stage on the Broadwalk at Johnson Street (200 Johnson St.), hosts free shows from 7 to 9 p.m. five nights a week, with programming by Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort. The city's October lineup gives this week a wide spread of styles. Friday, Oct. 23, belongs to AfterImage, a tribute to the Canadian trio Rush. Saturday, Oct. 24, Mantrap plays a Latin and pop set, and Sunday, Oct. 25, Brothers of Others mixes rock covers with original songs.

After the Monday and Tuesday break, Dottie Kelly brings blues, R&B and Motown on Wednesday, Oct. 28. Giaco plays pop and rock on Thursday, Oct. 29, and the Timeless Pop Band closes the week on Friday, Oct. 30. The month ends Saturday, Oct. 31, with Making Faces and a Halloween-themed show. There is room to dance in front of the stage, and the city notes the lineup can change, so it is worth a look at its concert venues page before heading out.

Two Friday Movies at ArtsPark

The city screens a free, family-friendly film every Friday at the ArtsPark Amphitheater, 1 Young Circle, in Downtown Hollywood. Tonight, Oct. 23, the movie is Hotel Transylvania 2, the animated sequel about Dracula, his daughter and his very human grandson. Next Friday, Oct. 30, the night before Halloween, the screen switches to Hocus Pocus, the 1993 comedy about three witch sisters brought back to Salem. Both shows run from 8 to 10 p.m.

Seating is on the lawn, so bring a blanket or a beach chair. City parks in Hollywood are plastic and foam free, which means single-use items such as plastic water bottles and plastic utensils are not allowed on the grounds. A refillable bottle solves that.

A Haunted House in West Hollywood

On Friday, Oct. 30, the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department turns the Driftwood Community Center into Driftwood Fright Night. From 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., the center at 3000 N. 69th Ave. will have a haunted house, music from a live DJ and a lineup of food trucks. The city's listing does not give an admission price or age range, so families with younger kids may want to call the city's general information line at 954-967-4357 before going. For anyone who wants both, the timing works: the haunted house opens 90 minutes before Hocus Pocus starts downtown.

Learn Hands-Only CPR at Memorial Regional

On Tuesday, Oct. 27, Hollywood HERO, a free community program run by volunteer emergency room staff and EMS personnel, teaches a hands-only CPR class at Memorial Regional Hospital, 3501 Johnson St., in Conference Room 4A. The session is listed from 6 to 8 p.m., and the class itself is described as about an hour long. It covers how to recognize cardiac arrest, how to call for help and how to keep chest compressions going until first responders arrive.

The class is aimed at parents, grandparents, coaches, teachers and anyone else who wants to be ready. Registration is free through the link on the city's calendar listing. Everyone who finishes gets a Hollywood HERO certificate of completion, though the program notes that it is not an American Heart Association certification and may not satisfy a job requirement. Classes repeat on the last Tuesday of the month, with the next ones set for Nov. 24, Jan. 26 and Feb. 23.
