The Hollywood Housing Authority is opening its wait list for one day, by phone, on Friday, Nov. 13, and only the first 75 households to get through will be added. Calls start at 9 a.m. and end at 4 p.m., or as soon as the 75th household registers, whichever comes first.

The City of Hollywood announced the opening this week. The list is run by the housing authority rather than the city, and the city is asking residents to direct every question to the authority.

How to get on the list

There is one way in: call 754-355-3066. Callers who are hearing or speech impaired can use the TTY/TDD line, 754-355-3067. There is no walk-in registration, and the authority says it will make no exceptions to that.

Each call can register one name. Have this ready before dialing, since a call that stalls while someone hunts for a number may lose its place:

  • Full name
  • Address
  • Telephone number
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth

Do not call before 9 a.m. on Nov. 13. The line is not taking names until then.

Who gets a preference

People who live or work in the City of Hollywood receive a preference on the list. The notice does not list income limits or other eligibility rules, so anyone unsure whether they qualify should ask the housing authority directly.

What the list is for

The city's announcement describes this as the wait list for the Public Housing Program. The housing authority's own wait list page also refers to its Section 8 preliminary wait list, so callers who want to know exactly which program a spot applies to should ask when they register.

When the line closes

Registration stops at 4 p.m. or at the 75th household, whichever comes first, so the list can close before the afternoon is out. The notice does not say when the list will open again.
