The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse is adding a holiday event to its calendar. Luminary Nights, which the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and Museum describes as a new holiday tradition for the 1860 landmark, runs four evenings in December, and tickets are on sale now.

What the nights look like

The museum is lighting up the whole property. A tunnel of lights will lead visitors toward the lighthouse, and the big banyan tree on the grounds will be illuminated. Around them, the evenings bring local artisans, live entertainment, family activities, holiday traditions, music, shopping and food along the waterfront.

Lighthouse climbs are part of the night, on a first-come, first-served basis and in limited numbers. Children must be at least 48 inches tall to climb.

Dates and tickets

Luminary Nights is a limited engagement on two December weekends: Friday, Dec. 11; Saturday, Dec. 12; Friday, Dec. 18; and Saturday, Dec. 19. Each night runs from 6 to 9 p.m.

Tickets are sold by date through the Loxahatchee River Historical Society, the nonprofit that runs the lighthouse and museum. Adult tickets are $30, child tickets are $20, and a family ticket for two adults and two children is $75.

All proceeds go toward preserving the lighthouse and its history and toward the museum's educational programs. The museum, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, says it welcomes more than 100,000 visitors a year and runs free public lectures and field trips for students from Title I schools.

Before then: Rendezvous at the Light

The lighthouse's signature fundraiser comes first. Rendezvous at the Light is Saturday, Nov. 14, from 6 to 9 p.m., a waterfront evening of culinary tastings from local restaurants, a silent auction and live entertainment on the lighthouse grounds. The suggested attire is elegant coastal cocktail, and the museum advises against stiletto heels on the grounds. Proceeds from that night also go to preservation and education. Restaurants that want to take part as food and beverage partners have until Nov. 1 to sign up.

The setting

The museum describes its role as caring for an outstanding natural area and more than 8,000 years of maritime, military and Native American history, and its programming through the year includes sunset gatherings beneath the beacon.

How to go
