West Palm Beach's Nora District has its own hotel. The district set Monday, Oct. 19, as the opening of The Nora Hotel at 1135 North Railroad Avenue, along with two places to eat and drink inside it: Pastis, the French brasserie from restaurateur Stephen Starr, and Jack's Bar.

It is the first hotel BD Hotels has built outside Manhattan. For the neighborhood of converted warehouses north of downtown, it is the piece that turns a dining and shopping district into a place visitors can also stay.

Who built it, and what it looks like

BD Hotels developed The Nora with hotelier Sean MacPherson. The architecture is by Stantec, and the design pulls from the Mediterranean and Spanish Colonial Revival styles that shaped Palm Beach, while the interiors are by Gachot Studios. The hotel's own site describes its setting as a cobblestone street lined with reimagined, century-old railway warehouses.

The lobby opens onto the district's cobblestone streets, cafés and cultural spots.

Pastis, from New York to Railroad Avenue

Pastis comes from Stephen Starr, the James Beard Award winner behind STARR Restaurants, and the West Palm Beach location carries the name of his Parisian-style brasserie.

The West Palm Beach Pastis is an all-day French brasserie serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, with seating indoors and outdoors. Its address is 1115 North Railroad Avenue, and the phone number listed by STARR Restaurants is 561-205-9900. The hotel also offers Pastis Privé, a private event room tied to the restaurant.

Jack's Bar is the hotel's lobby bar. The Nora District describes it as a nod to the neighborhood's past, both its glamour and its industrial grit.

A Sisley spa, the only one in South Florida

The hotel's spa is run by Sisley, the French skincare house. According to the Nora District, it has four private treatment rooms, a steam room and a Sisley boutique, open daily by reservation. Sisley says the Nora is the only place in South Florida to get its spa treatments. Its other spas in the United States are in New York, Marina del Rey and Scottsdale.

The treatment menu includes the Sisleÿa Ginkgo Gua Sha Facial, a restorative massage built around Sisley's Restorative Cream, and a body treatment Sisley calls the Absolute Slimming Ritual. Bookings are made online through the spa's page.

The rooftop is still to come

The top of the building holds a pool, two bars and private cabanas. The rooftop restaurant, Lillys, has its own site, which still says it is opening soon, so the rooftop is the next piece to watch for.
