North Miami's Parks and Recreation Department will turn Enchanted Forest Elaine Gordon Park into a haunted trail for one night, Friday, Oct. 23, from 7 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $7, and a family five-pack is $28, which works out to one ticket free. Online sales close Thursday, Oct. 22.
The city runs the haunted trail every October, and this year's edition falls in North Miami's centennial year: the city was incorporated on Feb. 5, 1926, and is marking the milestone with a year-long centennial celebration.
What is on the trail
The main draw is a walking path through the park dressed with scenes and costumed performers who deliver live scares along the way. The city lists the rest of the night's program on its event page:
- Hayrides through the park
- A haunted trail with live scares
- A trunk or treat, with candy handed out from decorated car trunks
- A costume contest
- A photo booth
- Food trucks, with food sold throughout the park
Younger children have their own section. The city's ticket page describes a Family Fun Zone with a costume parade, hayrides, pony rides, music and games. Halloween costumes are encouraged for every age.
Tickets, timing and rules
Single tickets are $7 plus taxes and fees. The family five-pack is $28 plus taxes and fees and covers five people for the price of four. Both are sold through the City of North Miami's Eventbrite ticket page until Thursday, Oct. 22. The ticket listing also says gate entry will be $7 on the night of the event. Tickets are not refundable.
Gates open at 7 p.m., and entry closes at 10 p.m., an hour before the event ends, so late arrivals should aim to be inside the park by then. Pets are not allowed.
Enchanted Forest Elaine Gordon Park is at 1725 NE 135 Street, North Miami, FL 33181. Questions go to the Parks and Recreation Department at 305-895-9840.
What comes after Halloween
Two more dates follow on the city's calendar after Halloween.
Jazz at MOCA comes first, on Friday, Oct. 30. The free outdoor concert series returns to MOCA Plaza, 770 NE 125 Street, outside the Museum of Contemporary Art, on the last Friday of the month, rain or shine. Seating starts at 7 p.m. and the music at 8 p.m. MOCA's calendar lists the Mike Gerber Quartet as the October performers. The series has run on the plaza for more than two decades.
The 51st WinterNational Thanksgiving Day Parade follows on Thursday, Nov. 26. It runs from 10 a.m. to noon along NE 125 Street from NE Sixth Avenue to NE 12th Avenue, with the main stage at North Miami City Hall, 776 NE 125 Street. Last year's parade was the 50th, and this year's edition is part of the centennial celebration. Seating at the main stage is limited.
The city is still signing up performers for the parade, including a Battle of the Bands. Middle school, high school, college and community marching bands are eligible, along with dance squads, cheer squads, flag corps, color guards and drill and step teams. The registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 30, through the participation form on the city's parade page.
