Palm Beach Gardens could have two NHL-size sheets of ice by the end of the year. The city says the indoor ice rink rising at Plant Drive Park, 10113 Plant Drive, is under construction and scheduled to open by December 2026. It will be open to the public, with hockey, figure skating, public skating, curling and sled hockey under one roof.
The building is a project of the Palm Beach North Athletic Foundation, a nonprofit that will build and run it under a partnership agreement with the city. The foundation calls the facility the Palm Beach Gardens IcePlex.
What is inside
The rink building is two stories and about 123,245 square feet, according to the city. The foundation's own breakdown puts about 88,450 square feet on the ground floor and about 34,795 on the second.
- Two rinks, each built to NHL dimensions.
- A full-service restaurant with viewing areas that look out over the ice, plus quick-serve concessions.
- A retail store for gear and merchandise.
- Locker rooms, academy space and a dedicated medical space.
- Upstairs, multipurpose rooms, a large community and conference room, and a performance center.
The foundation says the building is being designed with green building practices aimed at cutting energy and water use.
Who it is for
The foundation lists youth hockey, adult leagues, figure skating, public skating, curling and sled hockey among its programs. Its stated mission is to make recreation accessible to everyone, with a focus on nontraditional sports that help children build confidence, focus, responsibility and teamwork. It says it plans to work with local youth-serving organizations as partners.
Two names sit at the top of the foundation's list of supporters: Wayne Gretzky, whom the foundation describes as an NHL legend, and Larry Robbins, a hockey coach and philanthropist. The foundation says both back its aim of growing ice sports across South Florida and building up youth hockey in the region.
Where it is
Plant Drive Park sits between North Military Trail and Burns Road. The foundation points out that the site is close to both I-95 and Florida's Turnpike and says it intends the rinks to host local, regional, national and international events.
What is not set yet
The city's project page gives December 2026 as the opening target but not a specific date. The foundation says its membership categories, fees and dues are still being worked out, and neither the city nor the foundation has posted public skating hours or prices yet.
