The Spirit Halloween store in the former Big Lots at 725 N. University Drive in Coral Springs is not going dark after Halloween. The same building is set to reopen as a Spirit Christmas store, and the company's store locator lists a planned opening date of Friday, Nov. 6, 2026.

That makes Coral Springs one of only four Spirit Christmas locations in Florida this year, and the only one in South Florida. The other three Florida stores on the locator are in Clearwater, Jacksonville and Winter Garden, near Orlando.

From costumes to Christmas trees in one week

Spirit Halloween has been open at the University Drive address since Wednesday, Sept. 9, and its listing shows a planned last day of Saturday, Oct. 31. The company's own pages then show the location closed for the first days of November while the store is changed over, with the Christmas version of the store planned for Nov. 6. The Spirit Christmas page for Coral Springs currently reads Opens November, and lists no hours yet.

The store is in the 33071 ZIP code, in the space Big Lots used to occupy. The phone number on both listings is Spirit's central line, (855) 704-2669.

What Spirit Christmas sells

Spirit Christmas is the holiday spinoff of Spirit Halloween, the seasonal costume and decoration chain. The Christmas stores apply the same format to December: large lawn inflatables and animatronics for the yard, plus indoor decorations, ornaments, gifts and clothing.

According to the company's Coral Springs page, the store's range includes:

  • Outdoor displays: inflatables, light-up blow molds, outdoor lighting and animatronic figures, including characters from holiday television specials.
  • Indoor decorations: garland, lights, stockings, nutcrackers, Christmas trees, blankets, pillows, kitchen items and what Spirit describes as hundreds of ornament styles.
  • Holiday clothing: Christmas sweaters, T-shirts, hats, socks, slippers and loungewear.
  • Gifts: stocking stuffers, white elephant gifts, games, crafts, Elf on the Shelf, puzzles, retro toys, and treats and toys for pets.
  • Wrapping and party supplies: gift wrap, bows and bags.

Spirit also carries a horror-leaning holiday line it calls Creepmas, with spooky tabletop pieces and horror-themed ornaments, so the store keeps one foot in October.

A train station inside the store

The part of the store aimed at children is an in-store setup Spirit calls the Candy Cane Express. The company describes it as a Christmas train station built around a near life-size train and caboose that visitors can interact with and steer. It includes an arrivals and departures terminal with a desk for writing letters to Santa, and a Christmas-themed mailbox where children can check whether they made Santa's nice list.

Around the train, Spirit places animatronic figures based on holiday television specials. The company lists Snoopy from Peanuts; Frosty, Karen and Professor Hinkle from Frosty the Snowman; Heat Miser and Snow Miser from The Year Without a Santa Claus; and Clarice and several of the Misfit Toys from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. A separate section the company calls Christmas Inflatable Land holds character inflatables alongside generic designs.

How big Spirit Christmas is this year

The Spirit Christmas store locator currently lists stores in 15 states, from Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York down through Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee, and west to Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Illinois. Florida has four. Winter Garden opened first among them, on Thursday, Oct. 15. Clearwater and Jacksonville share the Coral Springs target date of Nov. 6.

For shoppers in Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties, the next nearest Spirit Christmas after Coral Springs is the Winter Garden store, west of Orlando.
