Thirty-two Palm Beach County artists are putting the coast on the walls of the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County's main gallery on Lake Avenue. Sun, Sand, Surf opens Friday, Nov. 6, in downtown Lake Worth Beach and runs through Dec. 31. Admission is free.

The Council announced the full roster on Oct. 20. The show takes on the South Florida shoreline from several directions: its light and skies, the way water reflects them, surf culture, and the beaches and dunes themselves. The Council says it also looks at how living on the coast shapes the county's creative identity, daily routines and traditions.

A surf museum in the mix

Alongside the 32 artists, the Council lists the Surfing Florida Museum as a special collaborator in the exhibition. Jessica Ransom, the Council's director of artist services, curated the show.

Sun, Sand, Surf fills the William R. and Joyce A. Kruger Family Gallery, the larger of the two galleries inside the Council's headquarters, the historic Robert M. Montgomery, Jr. Building at 601 Lake Ave. It follows the solo painting show by Bogdan Kravchenko that opened in the building's smaller gallery in October.

The artists

All 32 are based in Palm Beach County: Jon Allen, Gerri Aurre, Pamela J. Ayres, Jerilyn Brown, Jamie Cain, Summer Collins, April Davis, Ayesha DeLorenzo, Carol Frezza, Paul Gurguirs, Gail V. Haines, Diane Hutchinson, Bonnie Jacobson, Karen Jaggard, Melissa Kelley, Carolina King, Autumn Kioti Horne, Joe LaPierre, Sarah LaPierre, Margaret Lewis, Devin Noel, Theresa Roberts, Tom Rowe, Manon Sander, Billy Selesnick, Julie Silk Beaumont, Susan Smith, Christine Templeton, Bianca Urbanowicz, Maria Votek, David Wasson and Grant P. Williams.

Meet them on Nov. 5

The Council is holding an opening reception the night before the public opening, Thursday, Nov. 5, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., where visitors can meet the artists. An RSVP is required through the Council's website.

A performance inside the show in December

One of the exhibiting artists, Autumn Kioti Horne, has made an installation for the show that becomes the setting for a short theater piece. Horne, an artist and actor, performs The Necessary Monster and the Sea Itself with actor Suzanne Ankrum Harris. The piece runs about 20 minutes and is followed by a question-and-answer session with both performers.

It plays twice: Thursday, Dec. 10, at 6 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m. Both performances are free.

While you are there

The same building houses the Roe Green Uniquely Palm Beach Store, which sells work made by Palm Beach County artisans, and the Jean S. and Frederic A. Sharf Visitor Information Center, which offers free visitor information about the county.
