Downtown Coral Gables is adding a new Halloween night tradition this week. On Saturday, Oct. 31, the city's first Drink-or-Treat sends adults on a self-guided crawl through bars and restaurants on Miracle Mile and Giralda Plaza, a few blocks from a Día de los Muertos celebration that the Consulate General of Mexico in Miami is presenting at Ponce Circle Park the same evening. Here is what the city's calendar lists for Oct. 26 to Nov. 1.

Drink-or-Treat, Saturday From 6 p.m.

Starting at 6 p.m. on Oct. 31, participating downtown restaurants and bars serve Halloween cocktails, themed bites and happy hour specials, and costumes are encouraged. There are no tickets; the city asks people to RSVP so it can estimate attendance.

This year there is a souvenir: pick up a punch card at the first stop, collect a punch with each drink purchased, and after three participating locations you can claim a limited-edition Drink-or-Treat glass at the restaurants marked on the map, while they last. Among the specials the city lists:

  • 450Gradi, 130 Miracle Mile: every drink, signature cocktails included, $10 from 6 to 9 p.m.
  • Ami Ami, 318 Miracle Mile: a Blood Moon red wine drink with blackberry syrup and blood orange, and a Maple Murder made with white wine and apple cider.
  • Armstrong Jazz House, 271 Miracle Mile: the Jazzy Trick, an espresso martini.
  • Francesco, 278 Miracle Mile: the Inka Blood, a pisco cocktail, $12 all day.
  • Salumeria 104, 117 Miracle Mile: $10 themed cocktails, including a Pumpkin Spice Espresso Martini.
  • Sushi Sake, 230 Miracle Mile: a rosemary Lucifer Margarita for $15.
  • El Ñaño Miami, 339 Miracle Mile: happy hour extended from 3 to 9 p.m., with a La Llorona cocktail.

John Martin's, at 253 Miracle Mile, is running its Halloween Bar, and Benihana, La Birra Bar and FUKU have extended happy hours or beer specials. Giralda Plaza restaurants are on the same map.

Día de los Muertos at Ponce Circle Park, Saturday 4 to 9 p.m.

The Consulate of Mexico in Miami and the City of Coral Gables are holding a Day of the Dead celebration at Ponce Circle Park, 2810 Ponce de Leon Blvd., from 4 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 31, with traditional Mexican performances, music, dance and food. The consulate presents the holiday as part of its cultural diplomacy, honoring the traditions of Mexico's Indigenous and pre-Hispanic peoples. The Coral Gables Trolley runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. that day, and the Freebee ride service is also available.

Earlier on Saturday: the Mile for Kids

Trick-or-Treat on the Mile runs from 3 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 31, free, with participating Miracle Mile businesses handing out candy, face painting and balloon art at 3:30 p.m. and a magic show at 5 p.m. Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre, 280 Miracle Mile, holds a kiddie costume parade at 4:30 p.m., and the Coral Gables Museum hosts a Halloween doggie costume contest at 2 p.m.
