Palm Beach's week from Saturday, Oct. 24, through Friday, Oct. 30, opens on the Flagler Museum lawn and closes with an eleven-time Grammy winner on the Glazer Hall stage at the Royal Poinciana Plaza. In between, the Society of the Four Arts hosts a Palm Beach novelist and a costumed trick-or-treat for its youngest readers, and two plaza shops turn weeknight evenings into a wine tasting and a fundraiser for breast cancer research. Here are six things on the island, each confirmed with the organization running it.

Saturday, Oct. 24: Autumn at Whitehall

The Flagler Museum holds the second annual Autumn at Whitehall, part of its Family Days series, from 10 a.m. to noon on the grounds of Henry Flagler's 1902 estate. The museum lists seasonal treats, coffee from Joel's Place Coffee Cafe, live music, art activities and family games outdoors.

At 2 p.m., Benjamin Blythe of Hyde Park Mouldings gives a presentation inside Whitehall on the plaster reliefs and architectural columns in the house, how they were made and why keeping them intact is part of caring for the National Historic Landmark. Tickets are sold through the museum's online ticket portal, and museum members receive general admission at no charge.

Monday, Oct. 26: Three Sticks wines at the plaza

Virginia Philip Wine, Spirits & Academy at the Royal Poinciana Plaza hosts a Three Sticks tasting from 6 to 7 p.m. Greg Meyer, who has represented the winery across the Southeast since 2019, leads it. The pour list includes the 2022 Durell Vineyard Chardonnay, the 2023 Gap's Crown Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and a 2022 Price Family Vineyard Pinot Noir. Registration is through the plaza's event page.

Wednesday, Oct. 28: a Palm Beach novelist at the King Library

At 1:30 p.m., Palm Beach author Courtney Psak talks about her latest novel, The Aunt, at the Four Arts King Library, 101 Four Arts Plaza. The book is a suspense story about family and secrets set in Palm Beach. Psak worked at Cosmopolitan, Self and Modern Bride before writing her first novel, Thirty Days to Thirty, in 2015, and she lives on the island with her husband and two sons.

The talk is part of the Four Arts' Florida Voices series, funded by an endowment from the late Four Arts benefactor Fred J. Brotherton. There is no charge, but reservations are required, and the Four Arts also offers a Zoom link for those who cannot attend in person.

Wednesday, Oct. 28: Shop Pink at Alice + Olivia

From 5 to 7 p.m., Alice + Olivia at the Royal Poinciana Plaza, 340 Royal Poinciana Way, Suite M326B, holds a Shop Pink evening hosted by Jane Hanson, with champagne and complimentary embroidery on purchases. Shoppers who donate to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation at checkout get 20 percent off, with some exclusions. The store takes questions at [email protected].

Thursday, Oct. 29: Halloween at Preschool Story Time

The Four Arts Children's Library, on the second floor at 100 Four Arts Plaza, turns its regular preschool story time into a Halloween morning for children 4 and younger. After the reading, children in costume can collect candy and small toys at trick-or-treat stations, rain or shine. There is no craft that day, and families should bring a blanket or towel. The gardens open to story time families from 9 to 10 a.m.

Children's Library story times are free. The Four Arts warns that construction has left parking very limited, and it recommends carpooling, ride share or drop-off.

Friday, Oct. 30: Christian McBride and Ursa Major

Bassist and bandleader Christian McBride brings his quintet Ursa Major to Glazer Hall at the Royal Poinciana Plaza at 7:30 p.m. McBride has won eleven Grammy Awards and serves as artistic director of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, the TD James Moody Jazz Festival and the National Jazz Museum in Harlem.

The band behind him is saxophonist Nicole Glover, who performs often with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, along with guitarist Ely Perlman, pianist Michael King and drummer Savannah Harris. Tickets are sold through Glazer Hall's website.

Planning the week

The Flagler Museum, the Four Arts and the Royal Poinciana Plaza sit close to one another on the north end of the island. The Four Arts parking lots fill during programs while its renovation is underway, so arrive early or get dropped off. For the Four Arts talk on Oct. 28, reserve a seat or the Zoom link through the King Library's event page, and buy Glazer Hall and Flagler Museum tickets online before the day.
