Pompano Beach's Parks and Recreation Department turns Community Park into a free Halloween carnival on Saturday, Oct. 24, with rides, a petting zoo, hay rides and a pumpkin patch from 4 to 9 p.m. The rest of the city's calendar this week includes a Traveling Wilburys tribute at the Pompano Beach Cultural Center, a guided paint night downtown, two free evenings at the E. Pat Larkins Center and, on Sunday, Oct. 25, a costume contest for horses and dogs.

Every item below comes from the city's own event listings, with the date, time, place and price the city posted.

Boo Bash at Community Park, Saturday, Oct. 24

Boo Bash runs from 4 to 9 p.m. at Community Park, 1801 NE 6th Street, and admission is free. The city's list of activities includes carnival rides, hay rides, a petting zoo, a pumpkin patch, face painting, a toddler zone, food trucks, live performances with a DJ, and a chance for kids to meet the city's first responders.

Two contests anchor the evening. The pie-eating contest starts at 7 p.m., and the costume contest follows at 8 p.m. Families are encouraged to come in costume.

The Wilburys, a Traveling Tribute, Friday, Oct. 23

The Traveling Wilburys were the Grammy-winning supergroup of Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty. A tribute band called The Wilburys, which works to recreate the original group's sound, plays at the Pompano Beach Cultural Center at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23. Tickets start at $45.

The city notes that this show is a private rental of the Cultural Center by Arts Center Management, so it is not produced by the city's own cultural staff. Tickets are sold through the event page on the city's site.

Paint and Sip at the Bailey, Thursday, Oct. 22

The Bailey Contemporary Arts center holds its Paint and Sip workshop on the fourth Thursday of each month, which puts this month's session on Oct. 22 from 7 to 9 p.m. The $25 fee covers paint, supplies and a smock, and an instructor walks the group through color mixing, brush technique and a master copy. No experience is needed.

The city's listing points participants to The Vault's dinner and happy hour menus: The Vault starts taking food and drink orders at 7 p.m. that night and extends its happy hour to 7:30 p.m. for the class.

Kids Creative Studio, Saturday, Oct. 24

Earlier on the same Saturday as Boo Bash, the Bailey runs its monthly acrylic painting session for children ages 6 to 13, from 10 a.m. to noon. The fee is $30. The class meets on the fourth Saturday of each month, and each session introduces different techniques with color and texture.

Movie night at the E. Pat Larkins Center, Thursday, Oct. 22

The E. Pat Larkins Center at 520 NW 3rd St. hosts a free family movie night from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 22, with light refreshments. The series runs on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. The center's phone number is 954-786-4585.

The same center holds a free bingo night for adults 18 and older at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, with prizes. The city notes that bingo dates can shift around other programming, so a call to the center at 954-786-4585 before heading over will confirm it.

Horse and Hound costume contest, Sunday, Oct. 25

To close out the weekend, the city and the Sand and Spurs Stables Committee host the Horse and Hound Costume Event at Sand and Spurs Equestrian Park, 1600 NE 5th Ave., from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25. The schedule runs in three parts: a dog costume contest from 4 to 5 p.m., a horse costume contest from 5 to 6 p.m., and a horse show from 6 to 7 p.m.

Hay rides, a 360-degree photo booth, food trucks and a bounce house are also on the grounds. Costumes are welcome for people as well as animals.
