West Palm Beach has a week that runs from waterfront country-rock on Thursday to knee-deep Everglades water on Saturday, with a farmers market that just added five new stalls in between. Here is what is worth leaving the house for from October 13 to 18, each one checked with the people putting it on.

Thursday: Clematis by Night with 56 Ace

The city's free Thursday concert on the waterfront keeps rolling with 56 Ace, a five-piece band playing modern country-rock, from 6 to 9 p.m. on October 15 at Centennial Square and the Great Lawn, 100 N. Clematis St. It costs nothing, the Intracoastal is right there, and Clematis has plenty of dinner within a block. Details from the city.

Why go: it is the easiest good night out in the county, and it is free.

Saturday morning: the GreenMarket's new stalls

The West Palm Beach GreenMarket is three Saturdays into its 32nd season, and October 17 is a good morning to go looking for what is new. The city named five new vendors this year: Ba Café, Arya Tea Bar, Macaroner, Sayblee Products and Truffle Smiles. Four longtime vendors, Leila, Macy's Smoked Fish Dip, Makebs and Mozzarita, now hold legacy status after 15 or more years at the market, which means their spots are theirs to keep.

The market runs 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the waterfront at 100 N. Clematis St., and this season's theme is The World, Right Here, built around global flavors and traditions. A typical Saturday draws 10,000 to 15,000 people, and the city notes the market is the only one in the country to top USA TODAY 10Best's readers' poll for best farmers market three years running.

Parking tip from the city's season announcement: the City Center, Clematis and Sapodilla garages are free during market hours. Banyan and Evernia are closest but charge the $5 weekend flat rate.

Why go: new vendors are at their most eager in the first weeks of a season, and it is the region's best Saturday ritual.

Saturday morning, part two: Pilates among the Ferraris

On The Lawn at CityPlace, an all-levels outdoor Pilates class runs from 11 a.m. to noon on October 17, with the class surrounded by Ferraris. Bring your own mat, a towel and water, and RSVP in advance through CityPlace, which requires it.

Why go: it is the most West Palm sentence of the week, and a real workout.

Saturday afternoon: the Swamp Tromp at Grassy Waters

This is the one to tell people about on Monday. Grassy Waters Preserve, the city's own slice of the Everglades, runs a guided hike through cypress swamp in water up to your knees, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on October 17. Check in 15 minutes early at the Nature Center, 8264 Northlake Blvd. It is $10 for adults and $5 for children, ages 8 and up with an adult, and registration is required at 561-804-4985. Program details.

Why go: wear shoes you do not love. Very few people who live here have ever waded through a cypress swamp, and the city runs this one itself.

Sunday morning: a canoe through the preserve

If you would rather stay dry, Grassy Waters also runs a guided canoe cruise through its shallow wetlands on Sunday, October 18, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Check in 30 minutes early. It is $10 for adults and $5 for children; each canoe needs two paddlers, and kids 6 to 11 need two adults in the boat. Reserve at the same number, 561-804-4985. Program details.

Why go: a slow paddle with a guide pointing out what you would never notice on your own is the best ten dollars you will spend all week.

Looking ahead

Next weekend, CityPlace turns The Lawn into a fall festival on October 24 and 25, with a pumpkin patch, a pooch parade, trick-or-treating and an outdoor movie night, according to CityPlace. Put it on the list now.
