About 50 growers and specialty vendors, and as many as 3,000 shoppers, are expected at Richardson Historic Park in Wilton Manors on Nov. 7 and 8 for the 13th annual A Tropical Plant Fair, the Equality Garden Club's yearly sale of tropical plants, orchids, palms and succulents.

The fair runs Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 8, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Richardson Historic Park and Nature Preserve, 1937 Wilton Drive. Admission is $7 per person, per day.

What is for sale

The City of Wilton Manors describes the fair as a community plant sale of tropical plants, orchids, palms and succulents from local growers and specialty vendors, where shoppers can find unusual plants and ask for gardening advice whether they are experienced or just starting. The city lists it as family-friendly.

The vendor and attendance figures come from the garden club, which says the fair averages about 50 vendors and draws up to 3,000 people a year.

Thirteen years on Wilton Drive

The Equality Garden Club started the fair in 2013 so that growers could meet local plant buyers directly. The club itself dates to 2010, when it was formed as the Equality Park Garden Club; its first meeting drew 25 people. Most members today come from Wilton Manors, Oakland Park and Fort Lauderdale, with others from elsewhere in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties, according to the club.

The fair is also how the club gives back. Proceeds from past fairs have funded several grants to other local nonprofits that share the club's goal of horticultural education.
