Wellington's fall race sends its 10-mile runners onto wetland boardwalks through the Everglades Habitat at the Wellington Environmental Preserve, and the toughest version adds a run up and down a five-story tower partway through. The Wellington 5K, 10-Miler and Tower Challenge, in its 21st year, runs Sunday, Nov. 1, and the Tower Challenge was down to its last 7 spots on Tuesday.

Three races, one morning

  • 10-Miler and 10-Miler Tower Challenge: start at 7 a.m.
  • 5K: starts at 7:20 a.m.

The event window runs until 10 a.m. Entry is $40 for the 5K, $75 for the 10-Miler and $85 for the Tower Challenge. Registration on the race's RunSignup page stays open until 8 a.m. on race day for the 5K and 10-Miler.

The course

The 5K follows a path along Greenbriar Boulevard and into the start of the Wellington Environmental Preserve.

The 10-Miler goes much deeper. It runs through the preserve at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Everglades Habitat on Flying Cow Road, on a mix of paved path, shell rock road and wetland boardwalk, and the registration page says it also passes through Wellington's Aero Club neighborhood. Tower Challenge runners take on the same 10 miles and add the climb up and back down the preserve's five-story tower.

Who it is for, and who it helps

The race bills itself as a fall tune-up for people training for half and full marathons. It is hosted by the Wellington Runners Club. Proceeds benefit the Kids Cancer Foundation and other local charities.

The start and finish are on Greenbriar Boulevard.
