Wellington's all-new Aquatics Center at 3410 120th Ave. S. splits into two halves: a competition pool for laps, meets and water polo on one side, and a recreation pool for families on the other. The recreation side holds something no other pool in the state has, according to the village: Florida's first NinjaCross retractable obstacle course, built from hanging rings and platforms.
Two pools, used at once
The layout lets a swim meet and a family afternoon happen at the same time without one crowding the other.
The competition pool is 64 meters long, with twenty-eight 25-yard lanes and a movable bulkhead. That lets the village set it up for 50-meter Olympic-distance racing, swim and dive meets, water polo or synchronized swimming.
The recreation pool has a zero-depth entry, so small children can walk in from dry deck, plus a play structure that splashes water down on swimmers, lounge chairs and cabanas that can be rented. A central building between the two pools holds concession stands serving each side, locker rooms, changing areas, a multipurpose room and staff offices.
