Wellington's annual Murder Mystery Dinner Theater has a new act. On Saturday, Nov. 7, the Village of Wellington hosts The Mystery Behind the Magic, an adults-only evening of magic, mentalism and a three-course dinner at the Wellington Community Center, 12150 Forest Hill Blvd. Tickets are $60 a person, and the village is running supervised programming for children 5 to 12 during the event, so parents of younger children can attend.
Who is performing
The evening is built around magician and mentalist David Frost. His interactive performance combines sleight of hand, mind reading and psychological illusion.
How the night runs
The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. It opens with a cocktail reception and passed hors d'oeuvres on the Community Center's outdoor Promenade. Guests then move into the renovated Grande Ballroom for a banquet-style, three-course dinner. Cooper's Hawk Winery and Restaurants, the event's sponsor, is pouring the wine and Prosecco.
The theme is the Roaring '20s, and the village suggests formal attire. The evening is for guests 21 and older.
Choosing a table
Seats are sold individually at one of 22 tables, and guests pick their table when they register. Groups that want to sit together should register early and choose the same table. Seating is limited, and the village is strongly encouraging advance registration.
Bringing the kids
Supervised programming for children ages 5 to 12 runs during the event. Details for the children's program, including what it costs, are listed in the village's CivicRec registration system alongside the dinner tickets.
From murder mystery to magic
For years, Wellington's fall dinner event was a murder mystery theater. The village has replaced that format this year with the magic and mentalism show, keeping the dinner and the evening out while changing what happens between courses.
More in Wellington that week
The village's calendar stays busy around the dinner. On Sunday, Nov. 1, Greenbriar Park and its dog park stay closed until 10 a.m. for the Wellington 5K, 10-Miler and Tower Challenge. On Wednesday, Nov. 11, Wellington holds its Veterans Day parade and ceremony honoring current and former service members.
