A Spanish drama set in Tangier opens the 21st season of the Weston Foreign Film Series on Monday, Nov. 9. The Arts Council of Greater Weston and the City of Weston will screen six international films this season, one on the second Monday of each month from November through April, at AMC Weston 8. Each film plays twice, at 4:45 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., in its original language with English subtitles.
Season tickets for all six films cost $48 and went on sale Oct. 12. Single tickets are $10 at the Arts Council's table in the theater on the day of each screening, as long as seats remain.
The 2026-27 Lineup
Nov. 9, 2026: Calle Malaga (Spain, 1 hour 56 minutes). An aging Spanish woman living in Tangier refuses to go along with her daughter's plan to sell the family home. She fights to stay, works to recover the belongings of a lifetime and finds love along the way.
Dec. 14, 2026: The President's Cake (Iraq, 1 hour 45 minutes). In 1990s Iraq, a 9-year-old girl named Lamia is ordered to bake a cake for the president's birthday and has to hunt down the ingredients, knowing she faces punishment if she fails.
Jan. 11, 2027: Life Is Life (Italy, 1 hour 58 minutes). In a small village on Sardinia, an elderly shepherd becomes the last holdout against developers planning a luxury resort.
Feb. 8, 2027: The Women's Balcony (Israel, 1 hour 36 minutes). An accident at a bar mitzvah splits an Orthodox congregation in Jerusalem along gender lines, and the women of the community push back.
March 8, 2027: Broker (South Korea, 2 hours 9 minutes). A young mother who has second thoughts about giving up her baby uncovers a scheme that sells abandoned infants for adoption.
April 12, 2027: The Ties That Bind Us (France, 1 hour 46 minutes). A single father, a librarian and a child looking for a place to belong form an unconventional household, and the film asks what makes a family.
Who Runs It
The Arts Council of Greater Weston is a volunteer-run nonprofit that has been staging cultural programs in the city for more than 20 years. Besides the film series, its calendar includes Weston World Fest, Chalk in the Park and Celebrate the Arts Day. The film series is a joint program with the City of Weston, which also lists the November screenings on its own events calendar.
The format has stayed consistent over two decades: a weekday matinee-style early show for those who prefer daylight hours, a later show after work, and a lineup that moves across continents from month to month.
