AfriKin Art Fair 2026 (Exhibition): GRIOT: Urgent Storytelling for Our Times
Monday, November 30, 2026, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. · Maison AfriKin, Scott Galvin Community Center
About the Exhibition: GRIOT casts contemporary artists as vital members of their communities. The griots of West Africa have historically carried the stories of their communities, asking "Where have we been? What have we accomplished?" They could also carry a word of warning, asking "What are we becoming? Haven't we learned this lesson yet?" Working in painting, sculpture, photography, textile and other media, the artists of GRIOT are storytellers who are each remembering, reflecting, critiquing, praising, celebrating, dreaming and encouraging. The exhibition is arranged in dialogues, sections where the artworks pose similar questions. Visitors are invited to respond on site, re-enacting the call and response of a griot and their audience.
