Bring the dog. On Saturday, Nov. 14, the 11th annual Bark Back Benefit takes over the Bryant Park Amphitheater in Lake Worth Beach with a day of live bands, food trucks and a runway show where the models are adoptable dogs, walked by local first responders. The money raised goes to animal rescues, led by Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League of the Palm Beaches.
How the festival started
Bark Back began in 2014. According to the festival's own account, a group of longtime friends started it after two family pets, Etta and Nesta, died, as a way to honor them and to raise money for animals in need. It has since become an annual event and a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Bark Back Benefit Inc., with a mission of saving dogs and cats at risk of euthanasia in shelters and promoting spaying, neutering and responsible pet ownership. Proceeds go to Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League, Barky Pines Animal Rescue and Sanctuary and other groups.
What is on the schedule
Peggy Adams lists music running from noon to 9:30 p.m., with bands from around the region and beyond. Alongside the stage, the day includes:
- The First Responders Runway Show, featuring adoptable dogs from Peggy Adams.
- A classic car and motorcycle show.
- A raffle and a silent auction.
- Local vendors and food trucks.
Dogs are welcome, and the rescue invites families to come with theirs. Anyone thinking about adding a pet to the household can meet adoptable dogs on site.
