A 1939 art deco hotel on Collins Avenue in Mid-Beach is getting a new name and a Brazilian accent. Bossa House Miami Beach, a 97-room boutique hotel in the restored landmark built as the Copley Plaza Hotel, is slated to open in January 2027 as the first Florida property in IHG's Vignette Collection.

The building was designed by the architect Albert Anis, and it sits in the Collins Waterfront Architectural District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Most recently it operated as Circa 39.

Who is behind it

The hotel is owned by João Woiler, Sharon Cohen Woiler and Clemente Beda, and developed by CL Hotels, the hospitality company João Woiler founded in 2020. CL Hotels bought the property, renovated it and signed a franchise agreement with IHG to bring it into the Vignette Collection, IHG's group of independent hotels that keep their own names and personalities.

The concept is built around saudade, the Portuguese word Brazilians use for a deep, wistful longing, and around two Brazilian ideas of hospitality: simpatia (warmth) and gentileza (kindness).

Rooms with Rio on the walls

The 97 rooms include standard and premium kings, double queens, connecting rooms and a 579-square-foot Pool-View Suite with a separate living area. Rooms have wood floors, 55-inch smart TVs, music players, Nespresso machines, minibars and Salvatore Ferragamo bath products. The art on the walls is photography of Rio de Janeiro by co-owner Clemente Beda.

Churrasco, kebabs and caipirinhas

Ginga Restaurant will serve an all-day menu that mixes Brazilian and Mediterranean cooking, from churrasco to kebabs. Next door, Ginga Caipi Bar will pour caipirinhas made with cachaça, vodka or sake, alongside small plates such as coxinha, hummus and falafel.

Pool, beach and a hidden garden

  • A tropical outdoor pool with lounge chairs, bossa nova on the speakers and poolside food and drink service.
  • A beach setup with complimentary umbrellas, chairs and towels, plus food and drink service on the sand.
  • A 2,000-square-foot Hidden Garden, furnished by the Brazilian outdoor furniture maker Tidelli, used for relaxing and wellness programs.
  • A 24-hour fitness room with a Peloton bike, and one hour of free e-bike rental each day.

Six indoor and outdoor event spaces can be booked for gatherings, and some combine to hold up to 150 guests, with food and cocktails from Ginga.
