For one Saturday morning, the dogs get the beach. The City of Boynton Beach brings back Oceanfront Bark on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 9 a.m. to noon at its Oceanfront Park, 6415 N. Ocean Blvd., where licensed dogs can run off leash on the sand and into the water inside a fenced section of the beach.

Free, with free parking

The event is free for well-behaved, licensed dogs and their owners, and the city is waiving parking fees for every beach visitor during the event. There will be pet-friendly giveaways and a photo contest run with Raising Cane's.

The off-leash area is a temporary enclosure at the south end of the beach, just south of the middle beach access ramps.

The rules

  • Dogs must be licensed and vaccinated, with current licenses displayed.
  • No more than two dogs per person.
  • Dogs stay leashed on the way in and out, and owners keep a leash in hand.
  • Owners stay inside the enclosure and within sight of their dog, and clean up after it.
  • Dogs should respond to voice control.
  • Female dogs in heat are not allowed, and a dog that shows aggression must leave at once.

About the park

Oceanfront Park is the city's own beach, though its mailing address is in the neighboring town of Ocean Ridge. It is open every day of the year from sunrise to 9 p.m., with lifeguards on duty daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There are surfing and skimboarding areas at the north and south ends, beach wheelchairs, picnic areas with grills, covered pavilions that can be reserved, a playground with a section for toddlers and one for ages 5 to 12, and an adult fitness area.

Oceanside Beach Service rents chairs, umbrellas and cabanas at the park, starting at $15 an hour. Annual beach parking passes are sold at Boynton Beach City Hall, 100 E. Ocean Ave.
