Delray Beach packs most of its first November week into Friday and Saturday, starting with the monthly gallery walk downtown and ending with a weekend fine art show on the lawn at Old School Square. Here is what is on, Nov. 2 to 8, with the times and prices from each organizer.
First Friday Art Walk, Friday, Nov. 6
The First Friday Art Walk runs from 6 to 9 p.m. across downtown's galleries and cultural centers. The Cornell Art Museum at Old School Square has four exhibitions on view, ranging from work drawn from exploring the Everglades to paintings shaped by nature and a retrospective in printmaking. Arts Garage has two exhibitions up, Beyond the Frame and Sonder. Galleries on the route include Easton Art Galleries at 21 W. Atlantic Ave. and DeBilzan Galleries at 38 E. Atlantic Ave. The Downtown Delray Beach site lets walkers build their own itinerary of stops.
A1A and beach history walk, Saturday, Nov. 7
The Delray Beach Historical Society's Historic Walking Tour: A1A and Beach covers 2.7 miles along the oceanfront road, past historical markers and landmarks, with stories from the era of the Barefoot Mailman. Historian Tom Warnke, the society's archive coordinator, leads it, and the society promises a few unannounced stops along the way. The walk starts at the beach pavilion on A1A and runs from 10 a.m. to noon. Tickets are $30, or $20 for society members, through delraybeachhistory.org.
Art on the Square, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 7 and 8
More than 60 juried fine artists from around the country set up on the Cornell Art Museum's front lawn and along Swinton Avenue for Art on the Square. Admission is free, both to the show and to the museum, and every piece is original work for sale, with proceeds from sales supporting the Cornell. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Old School Square, 51 N. Swinton Ave.
The Ladies of Simone at Arts Garage, Saturday, Nov. 7
Vocalists Sarah Gracel and Deana Butler-Rahming return to Arts Garage with The Ladies of Simone, their tribute to Nina Simone, from 8 to 10 p.m. The set list draws on her catalog, including I Loves You Porgy, The Look of Love, My Baby Just Cares for Me, To Be Young, Gifted and Black and Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood. Arts Garage is at 94 NE Second Ave., and tickets are sold through artsgarage.org.
Getting there
Everything above except the beach walk sits within a few blocks of Atlantic Avenue and Swinton Avenue downtown. The history walk starts on the ocean at the A1A beach pavilion, so plan to drive or ride to the beach, and book walk tickets in advance.
