Daniel's Miami, the steakhouse on San Ignacio Avenue in Coral Gables, has added a second, more casual room high above the neighborhood. D's Rooftop Bar & Grill is listed on Daniel's Miami's own site as a rooftop bar and dining room on the penthouse level of the 1515 Sunset building next door, with its own private entrance and its own valet.

Daniel's Miami is run by Gioia Hospitality, the group behind the original Daniel's in Fort Lauderdale. The rooftop is the casual sibling: a bar and grill with big screens, a menu built around the grill, and a standing theme on three of the nights it is open.

What is on the menu

Where the dining room downstairs is a wagyu and wine cellar operation, the rooftop menu is described by the restaurant as elevated comfort food and grilled items: burgers, grilled steaks and seafood, including fried Florida lobster. Cocktails are served at a full-service bar on the roof.

The restaurant pitches the roof on its panoramic views over Coral Gables and its South Florida sunsets.

The weekly lineup

Three nights have standing themes on the restaurant's calendar:

  • Thursdays: Cigar Night, an evening of cigars on the roof.
  • Fridays: Family Barbecue Night, a barbecue evening aimed at families.
  • Saturdays: College Game Night, with college football on the big screens.

The rooftop's posted hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 5 to 10 p.m. Reservations are taken through Resy from the Daniel's Miami site.

Private events

The roof doubles as an event space. According to the restaurant, it seats up to 110 people and holds 150 standing, with several seating layouts, a sound and audiovisual system, air-conditioned restrooms and the full bar. Event inquiries go to [email protected].

Daniel's Miami is at 1500 San Ignacio Ave. Its steak program draws on Australian and Texas wagyu producers and North Florida ranches including Suwannee River Wagyu, and its wine program is led by Gioia Hospitality's Daniel Bishop. The downstairs room serves lunch Tuesday through Friday, Sunday brunch and dinner nightly, with a happy hour at the bar on weekday evenings.

One note before you go: the main dining room has a dress code that rules out shorts, tank tops, flip-flops and baseball caps, while the bar allows non-athletic shorts. Check the rooftop's own rules when you book.
