For the next 12 Fridays, part of a Fort Lauderdale beach street belongs to diners. The city is closing the eastbound lanes of NE 33rd Street, from NE 33rd Avenue to Ocean Boulevard, every Friday from 5 p.m. to midnight for Friday Dining in the Streets. It started Nov. 6 and runs through Jan. 29, 2027.
Where and when
The closed stretch runs east from NE 33rd Avenue to Ocean Boulevard (State Road A1A). Only the eastbound side is closed. The city lists the hours as 5 p.m. to midnight, every Friday in the window.
That makes the remaining dates:
- November: 13, 20 and 27 (the day after Thanksgiving)
- December: 4, 11, 18 and 25 (Christmas Day)
- January: 1 (New Year's Day), 8, 15, 22 and 29
The city's advisory gives the full span without listing exceptions for the holidays, so if you are planning a Christmas Day or New Year's Day dinner around it, check with the restaurant first.
Getting there
The city's advice is simple: expect congestion on Friday evenings and give yourself more time. Drivers heading east toward A1A on NE 33rd Street will need another route while the lanes are closed, and the city's advisory does not list a formal detour. The westbound side of the street stays open.
The city lists the closure under District 1.
Part of a busy season on the beach
Friday Dining in the Streets lands in the city's busiest weekend stretch of the fall. The same week, the city posted traffic advisories for Sunday's Fort Lauderdale Running Festival and two Day of the Dead celebrations downtown, and a household hazardous waste and medication drop-off at Mills Pond Park on Nov. 21 (registration closes at noon Nov. 20).
Questions
For questions about the closure, the city's customer service line is 954-828-8000, and road problems can be reported through FixIt FTL. Traffic advisories for the rest of the season are posted on fortlauderdale.gov/news.
