Gulfstream Park Village in Hallandale Beach turns on its Symphony in Lights holiday display on Saturday, Nov. 14, and leaves it running every night through Thursday, Dec. 31. The open-air Village Center at the racetrack will carry more than 250,000 LED lights, all timed to music, and a 10-minute light show starts at the top of every hour from 6 to 11 p.m. Admission is free.

The display is an annual one for the Village, the shopping and dining district at Gulfstream Park, home of the racetrack and casino. The soundtrack mixes holiday standards with popular songs, old and new, so the show changes character from one hour to the next.

When the shows run

The lights are on nightly from 6 to 11 p.m. for the whole run, Nov. 14 through Dec. 31, including weeknights. Each hourly show lasts about 10 minutes, which means a family arriving at 6:50 can catch the 7 p.m. show, eat, and still see the 8 p.m. one on the way out. There is no ticket and no reservation.

Santa and snow, on five Saturdays and Christmas Eve

On select dates the Village adds Selfies with Santa and snow shows in the Village Center. Gulfstream Park lists them for Saturday, Nov. 28; Saturday, Dec. 5; Saturday, Dec. 12; Saturday, Dec. 19; and Thursday, Dec. 24. Those are the nights to plan around for children who want a photo with Santa or a few minutes of manufactured snow in South Florida.

What else is in the Village

The light show is set among the Village's stores and restaurants. Gulfstream Park counts 11 home stores there, among them Crate & Barrel, Williams-Sonoma, West Elm, Pottery Barn, The Container Store and Bang & Olufsen. Restaurants on the property include Yard House, Texas de Brazil and a Häagen-Dazs shop.

Opening night shares a date with two other Gulfstream Park events on Saturday, Nov. 14: a Bet & Brunch at the track and a Family Day at the Races with a Kids Club Fall Fest, both listed on the park's events calendar. Live racing runs Friday through Sunday during the current Sunshine Meet.
