The Seminole Theatre in downtown Homestead starts three five-week adult dance programs this week: salsa and heels classes on Tuesday, November 3, and line dancing on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. Each program costs $80 for all five classes or $20 to drop in for a single night, and no experience is needed.

The classes are the first stretch of a fall and holiday lineup at the theater, 18 N. Krome Avenue, which runs into December with a family pajama-party screening of The Polar Express and a 1920s-themed Christmas cabaret on the theater's terrace.

Dance classes, November 3 to December 2

All three programs meet at 7 p.m. at the Seminole Theatre, and the class listings run from 7 to 8 p.m.

  • Salsa: Tuesdays, November 3, 10, 17 and 24 and December 1. The class is open to beginners and to dancers with some experience.
  • Heels: Tuesdays on the same five dates. The class teaches choreography danced in heels, and beginners are welcome.
  • Line dancing: Wednesdays, November 4, 11, 18 and 25 and December 2. The listing suggests bringing boots.

The theater bar stays open for happy hour after class, according to the theater. Students can buy the five-class package or pay per class.

The Polar Express Shadow Cast Experience, December 5

On Saturday, December 5, the theater shows The Polar Express in its main auditorium with a shadow cast: live performers who act, dance and interact with the film as it plays on screen, in costume and with choreography built around scenes from the movie.

The event is set up as a pajama party, and guests are invited to come in pajamas. Before the film, families can visit a craft station, meet Santa and have a cup of hot cocoa. There are two showings, at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., each scheduled for two hours. Tickets are listed at $32.73. Every guest, regardless of age, needs a ticket, and lap seat tickets are offered for select performances.

1920s Christmas Cabaret, December 5 and 12

The theater's outdoor terrace hosts a 1920s Christmas Cabaret on two Saturdays, December 5 and December 12, with seatings at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. each night. The two-hour evening features live singers and dancers performing Christmas music in the style of a Roaring Twenties cabaret.

Each ticket includes one drink. Guests can dress in 1920s-style holiday clothing or enter the evening's Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest. Tickets are listed at $52.39, and the theater notes that capacity is limited.

About the theater

The Seminole Theatre opened on November 26, 1921, as a cinema showing silent films, and soon drew moviegoers and social events from across South Dade County and the upper Keys. Today it is a City of Homestead venue managed by OVG Facilities, hosting concerts, theater productions, classes and community events. The main auditorium is accessible and has assistive listening devices.
