Jupiter's Halloween Skate and Scooter Contest has a new date. The Town of Jupiter has moved the contest to Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Jupiter Skate Park, so riders who planned costumes for late October get one more afternoon to wear them. That same Saturday evening, the town runs Kids Night at the Jupiter Community Center, and on Wednesday, Nov. 11, it holds its Veterans Day ceremony.
Saturday, Nov. 7: tricks, then costumes, then boards
The contest splits the afternoon between scooters and skateboards, with a costume contest in the middle. The schedule:
- 2 p.m.: scooter registration
- 3 p.m.: scooter contest
- 5 p.m.: costume contest and skateboard registration
- 6 p.m.: skateboard contest
Riders compete in three age divisions: 12 and under, 13 to 15, and 16 and over. The top three finishers in each division win prizes. Entry is $10 per person, paid when riders sign up at the Skate Park before their contest, and watching is free.
Costumes are encouraged, with two limits: no Halloween masks, and whatever a rider wears has to let them wear a helmet safely while competing. The contest depends on good weather. Questions go to the Skate Park at 561-630-5684.
Saturday night, Nov. 7: Kids Night
While older riders are on the ramps, younger kids have their own evening. Kids Night runs from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Jupiter Community Center, 200 Military Trail, for children ages 5 to 11.
The night includes gym games, arts and crafts and entertainment, plus dinner and dessert, all in a supervised setting. It costs $20 for Jupiter residents and $25 for nonresidents, and registration is online through the town's recreation sign-up system. The town runs the same night again on Saturday, Dec. 5, for families who cannot make November.
Wednesday, Nov. 11: Veterans Day ceremony
The Town of Jupiter holds its Veterans Day Ceremony at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 210 Military Trail. The town has posted notice that members of the Town Council may attend.
