The King's Academy is a state volleyball champion again. The West Palm Beach school's girls team beat Pine Crest 3-1 on Wednesday night, Nov. 4, at Polk State College in Winter Haven, ending a 25-5 season with the program's first state title since 2006.
It is the fourth state championship in the history of the Lions' volleyball program, after titles in 1993, 1994 and 2006, according to the school's athletics department.
How the final went
The Lions took the first game 25-15. Pine Crest, the Fort Lauderdale school, answered by winning the second. The King's Academy then won the third game and held on in the fourth to close out the match 3-1.
The last point came from senior Miranda Knoll, who has committed to play at Northwestern University. She ended the match, and the season, with a kill down the line.
A postseason with one dropped set
The team went 7-0 in the playoffs and lost a single set across the entire run, the school reports. It reached the final with a 3-0 win over Pensacola Catholic on Tuesday, the day before the championship match, which meant the Lions arrived in Winter Haven having swept their semifinal.
The regular season set it up: the Lions finished at 25-5 overall once the final was in the books.
Three state titles in three years
Volleyball's title is the third state championship for King's Academy athletics in three years. The boys volleyball team won the school's first boys volleyball state title in 2025, and the girls soccer team won a state championship in 2026. The volleyball win makes it three different teams, in two different sports, bringing a state trophy back to West Palm Beach in that span.
For the girls volleyball program, the 20-year gap between the 2006 championship and this one covers a whole generation of players.
