North Palm Beach County is getting a new dementia day center. Alzheimer's Community Care will hold the grand opening of its Lake Park Specialized Dementia Day Center on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 1015 10th Street in Lake Park.

The nonprofit's announcement sets the schedule: a welcome, lunch and tours starting at noon, then the official ribbon-cutting at 12:45 p.m. RSVPs are taken through the center's page on the organization's website.

What the center offers

The Lake Park center is built for people living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Alzheimer's Community Care lists three services there:

  • Specialized Alzheimer's adult day care.
  • Family Navigators, who give families support, tools and resources.
  • ID Locators, which help reduce the risk of a loved one wandering.

Adult day care gives a person with dementia a supervised place to spend the day, and gives the family member caring for them time to work, rest or handle their own appointments.

Who runs it

Alzheimer's Community Care is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit headquartered at 1615 Forum Place in West Palm Beach. It runs locations across Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie counties. On its website, Lake Park and a new location in Tampa are the two centers marked as opening soon.

How to enroll

The organization has not posted hours or enrollment dates for Lake Park yet. Families who want a spot can fill out the interest form on the center's web page with their name, phone number, email and questions, and a staff member will follow up. The main office can be reached at 561-683-2700.

The grand opening is Tuesday, Nov. 10, at noon, with the ribbon-cutting at 12:45 p.m., at 1015 10th Street, Lake Park.
