Maman, the French-style café and bakery that started in New York's SoHo, is getting ready to open in downtown Delray Beach. The company's site lists the new café at 31 S. Swinton Ave., just south of Atlantic Avenue, with its menu already posted and a note to stay tuned for the grand opening.

What the Delray café looks like

Maman's page for the location describes a south of France look, with cozy corners and vintage finds inside. The detail that sets this one apart is outdoors: a large garden patio, which the café pitches for morning espresso, matcha in the sun and long brunches with flowers on the table.

The café's phone is already listed: 561-265-5811.

What is on the menu

The Delray menu is the Maman lineup that South Florida regulars know from the other cafés. A few of the breakfast prices posted for this location:

  • A pastry assortment, the chef's choice of three baked goods, $12 (dine-in only)
  • The daily quiche, $10
  • A smashed avocado tartine on sourdough with cherry tomatoes, beets and pickled onions, $13.50
  • A build-your-own omelette with three fillings and balsamic greens, $14
  • A Greek yogurt parfait with almond butter granola and pineapple mango compote, $10

The menu also runs through soups, salads, bowls, sandwiches and tartines, sweets, and a full list of coffee, tea and specialty drinks, plus a kids' section.

Where Maman came from

Maman's founders, Benjamin Sormonte and Elisa Marshall, opened the first café as an independent shop in SoHo. The name is French for mother, and the company says the food draws on the cooking of their own mothers, one from the south of France and one from North America.

The Palm Beach County map

Delray will be Maman's third café in Palm Beach County, after West Palm Beach (473 S. Rosemary Ave.) and West Boca (9959 Glades Road), and its 12th in South Florida. The rest are in Miami-Dade: the Design District, Wynwood, Edgewater, Brickell, South Beach, Sunset Harbour, South Miami, Coral Gables and Aventura.

Before you go

The café has not posted its opening day or hours yet. Its page at mamannyc.com, which carries the full Delray menu, is where the grand opening will be announced, and online ordering for pickup and delivery runs through the same site.
