Orchestra Miami opens its 20th season tonight, Sunday, Nov. 8, at 6 p.m. at Pinecrest Gardens, and it begins with the same music it played at its very first concert two decades ago: Mozart's Overture to The Marriage of Figaro.

The concert is also the first night of the orchestra's Pinecrest Classical series, three concerts at Pinecrest Gardens between now and April.

The program

After the overture, three of the orchestra's own principals step forward for Beethoven's Triple Concerto in C Major, Op. 56. Concertmaster Mei Mei Luo plays the violin part, principal cellist Aaron Merritt plays cello, and Artistic Director Elaine Rinaldi plays the piano part. The Triple Concerto sets a piano trio against a full orchestra, a pairing of chamber music and concerto that had almost no precedent when Beethoven wrote it.

Mozart closes the evening as well, with the Symphony No. 40 in G Minor, K. 550, one of Mozart's most widely performed works.

Tickets

Seating is in two sections, with senior and youth prices in each:

  • Section A: $50, $45 for seniors, $25 for under 18
  • Section B: $40, $35 for seniors, $20 for under 18

Tickets are sold through the concert page on orchestramiami.org. Parking at Pinecrest Gardens is free.

The rest of the Pinecrest Classical series
