Construction has started on a new campus for C. Robert Markham Elementary School in Pompano Beach. Broward County Public Schools held a groundbreaking at the school, 1501 NW 15th Ave., on Friday, Oct. 30, marking the start of work on three new buildings.
What is being built
According to the school district, the three buildings will hold:
- New classrooms.
- Administrative offices.
- A combined cafeteria and auditorium.
- Other support spaces for students and staff.
The work reaches past the buildings themselves. The district says the campus will also get a central courtyard, covered walkways, new landscaping, parking lot improvements and upgraded lighting.
The groundbreaking brought together School Board members, the superintendent and district leaders with Markham's administrators, teachers, staff and students.
A long-planned project
The Markham work is part of the district's capital program, which publishes project updates through its SMART Futures site. The district held a community meeting with Markham families in April 2024 to go over the school's project plans, including a tour of a mock-up classroom.
The district did not post a completion date with the groundbreaking announcement.
For Markham families
Questions about drop-off, pickup and access during construction go to the school's front office. Project updates for Markham and other Broward schools are posted on the district's SMART Futures site, and district news is on the Broward County Public Schools website.
