Midtown Beach in Palm Beach is open again. After big surf and high tides closed it in late October, the Town of Palm Beach reported on Nov. 6 that the beach is open at the Brazilian Avenue entrance. The Chilean Avenue entrance stays closed until further notice because access there is still unsafe.

That puts the island's main public beach back in play heading into Veterans Day and a busy couple of weeks on the town's calendar.

What is open, and what is not

  • Open: Midtown Beach at the Brazilian Avenue entrance.
  • Closed: the Chilean Avenue entrance, until the town says otherwise.

The town posts changes on its website and on the Midtown Beach conditions boards at the beach. Questions go to Assistant Fire Chief Joe Sekula at 561-227-6435.

On Oct. 27, the town had reported Midtown Beach closed because of the large surf and high tides, with conditions unsafe for beach access. The same late-October update reminded residents that fall king tides can push water into low-lying streets.

Lifeguards on Veterans Day

Town offices close on Wednesday, Nov. 11, for Veterans Day, but the town's recreation facilities stay open and its public beaches will have lifeguards on duty from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Parking rules and garbage and recycling pickup do not change for the holiday, and construction and landscaping work are not allowed that day.
