Starting today, Monday, November 2, 2026, the North Miami office of Physicians Group of South Florida at 1801 NE 123rd Street, Suite 405, operates as UHealth North Miami, part of the University of Miami Health System. Eight physicians from the group are joining UHealth: five primary care doctors who stay in the same office, and three gastroenterologists who are moving their practices to UHealth SoLé Mia Medical Center, also in North Miami.
For patients, the change is mostly in the name on the door and the systems behind it. Primary care patients keep their current office and their current doctors, and they gain access to UHealth's wider network of primary, specialty and subspecialty care, which is backed by the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine.
Who is joining UHealth
The five primary care physicians, listed by UHealth under internal and family medicine at UHealth North Miami, are:
- Jane S. Cohen, M.D.
- Martin Drost, M.D.
- Leilany Irizarry-Colon, M.D.
- Danny Abouekde, D.O.
- Jonathan Pomper, M.D.
The three gastroenterology and endoscopy physicians, now seeing patients at UHealth SoLé Mia Medical Center, are:
- David Cohen, M.D.
- Arin H. Newman, M.D.
- Daniel L. Wolfson, M.D.
A practice with long local roots
According to the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Physicians Group of South Florida was founded in Miami Beach in 1967. Its physicians have cared for patients in the North Miami area for about 20 years, including roughly 15 years at the NE 123rd Street office. UHealth says having the primary care office and the SoLé Mia specialty center a short distance apart is meant to make it easier for primary care doctors, gastroenterologists and other UHealth specialists to coordinate a patient's care.
UHealth SoLé Mia Medical Center, at 2111 Sole Mia Way, opened in the fall of 2025 and is the largest outpatient center in the UHealth network. It houses a range of outpatient services and specialty programs, so gastroenterology patients moving there will be in the same building as many other UHealth specialists.
What current patients should know
- Your office: Primary care visits continue at 1801 NE 123rd Street, Suite 405. Gastroenterology visits are now at SoLé Mia, 2111 Sole Mia Way, 4th floor.
