Palm Beach Gardens is turning a ball field into a free movie theater on Friday. The city's Films on the Field series shows Toy Story 5 (rated PG) on Friday, Nov. 6, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Field 10 at The Gardens North County District Park, 5101 117th Court N. There is no charge. The city asks families to bring blankets, lawn chairs and snacks, and to bring along a new, unwrapped toy for its Joy Drive.
Here is the rest of the week in the city, Nov. 2 to 8.
Stories in the Park, Tuesday, Nov. 3
The city's free Stories in the Park reading hour runs from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Burns Road Playground, 4404 Burns Road. It happens on the first Tuesday of every month from October through May, and if the weather turns, the stories move indoors to the Burns Road Community Center next door.
Downtown Palm Beach Gardens Art Festival, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 7 and 8
The second annual Downtown Palm Beach Gardens Art Festival fills Downtown at the Gardens, 11701 Lake Victoria Gardens Ave., near The Gardens Mall. Admission is free. The festival's producer, Howard Alan Events, lists life-size sculpture, paintings, handcrafted jewelry, glasswork and photography, and the artists are at their booths to talk about how the work is made. Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Floating Sound Bath, Saturday, Nov. 7
The city's Floating Sound Bath returns to the Palm Beach Gardens Aquatic Complex, 4420 Burns Road, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Golfers, note Saturday
The city's 20th Annual Mayor's Veterans Golf Classic, a charity tournament, takes over Sandhill Crane Golf Course, 9500 Sandhill Crane Drive, on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Both the Sandhill Crane course and The Nest are closed to the public that day, so regular players should book Friday or Sunday instead. Questions about the tournament go to the city at (561) 799-4100.
Planning the week
Friday's movie and Saturday's art festival are both free and both outdoors, so check the city's calendar and the festival page for any weather changes. For the movie, arrive early to claim a spot on the field, and remember the toy.
