Palm Beach Opera has set three productions for its 2027 season at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach, and it has booked tenor Jonas Kaufmann for his first appearance with the company: a gala recital at The Breakers Palm Beach on Feb. 10, 2027.
The gala
Kaufmann has performed on many of the world's leading opera stages, and the company calls the evening an exclusive recital and its Palm Beach Opera debut. The night includes cocktails, his performance, dinner and dancing. Proceeds support the company's mainstage productions, its education programs and its training of young singers.
The gala is the company's largest annual fundraiser and has been held at The Breakers before; in 2023 it featured tenor Piotr Beczala. Table sponsorships, underwriting and tickets for the 2027 evening go through Sabrina Nguyen at Palm Beach Opera, 561-835-7576 or [email protected].
The three operas
All three productions play the Kravis Center on a Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday matinee schedule, sung in Italian with English supertitles.
- Aida (Verdi): Jan. 29 and 30 at 7:30 p.m., Jan. 31 at 2 p.m. The story of a captive Ethiopian princess in ancient Egypt who falls for the commander of the army that conquered her homeland. Running time is about 2 hours 55 minutes with one 25-minute intermission.
- The Barber of Seville (Rossini): Feb. 26 and 27 at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. The comedy in which Figaro, the barber, helps Count Almaviva win Rosina away from her guardian, Dr. Bartolo. About 3 hours 15 minutes with one 25-minute intermission. The company notes that the production uses strobe and lightning effects.
- Pagliacci (Leoncavallo): April 2 and 3 at 7:30 p.m., April 4 at 2 p.m. A traveling clown discovers his wife's affair, and the show he is performing turns real. About 1 hour 15 minutes with no intermission.
Palm Beach Opera's production pages list casts for all three as coming this fall.
Around the performances
The company pairs the mainstage run with smaller events: Lunch and Learn sessions with resident artists, an Opening Night Dinner before the first performance, Curtain Warmers talks by the associate conductor before shows, and a Sunday question-and-answer session with the cast after each matinee.
