Pompano Beach's holiday boat parade is in its 64th year, and this time the boats are going red, white and blue. The Greater Pompano Beach Chamber of Commerce Holiday Boat Parade sails the Intracoastal Waterway on Friday, Dec. 11, starting at 6 p.m., with the theme A Party in the U.S.A., a nod to the country's 250th anniversary.

The city announced the date on its news blog, and the chamber is running entries and tickets.

Three ways to be part of it

This year the chamber has its own parade boat, and for the first time guests can ride it. Here is what is on offer, according to the city:

  • The Chamber Boat Experience, $200 a person. A seat aboard the chamber's new boat, inside the parade itself, with food and an open bar.
  • The VIP Waterfront Viewing Party, $100 a person. Held at The Cove Waterfront and Tiki Bar in Deerfield Beach.
  • Enter your own boat, $25. Boaters can register through the chamber and decorate to the theme. Entrants compete for a best-themed boat award.

Watching from home

The parade will also be livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube, so anyone who cannot get to the water can follow along. The city's announcement does not list the public viewing spots along the shore, so check the chamber's site closer to the date for route details.

A December tradition with a long run

The parade is in its 64th edition. The theme ties it to the national America 250 celebrations that cities across the Gold Coast have been marking through the fall, and the city says boats will be decked out in red, white and blue.

The parade falls in a busy stretch of Pompano Beach's holiday season. The city's own blog lists its holiday lights, decorations and events on a separate seasonal page, and City Hall is closed Nov. 26 and 27 for Thanksgiving.
