Sandbox VR, the full-body virtual reality chain, opens its newest Miami-Dade venue on Friday, Oct. 30, inside The Falls shopping center at 8888 SW 136th Street in Kendall. It joins the company's existing Miami location in Wynwood.

How it works

Sandbox VR runs room-scale games for small groups who play together in the same physical space. Players wear trackers on their wrists, ankles and head, so the system follows the whole body rather than just a pair of hand controllers, and each player sees their full avatar moving the way they move. Haptic vests add a physical layer: when something hits you in the game, whether a shot, a bite or a blow, the vest delivers it as a pulse you can feel.

The company says no gaming experience is needed. The format is built for groups of friends, families and coworkers rather than solo players, and the Falls location takes birthday parties, corporate outings and private events.

What is on the menu

The Falls venue opens with the company's full catalog. The titles listed for the location include:

  • Deadwood Origins, the newest release, a jungle story about where the company's Deadwood zombie series began
  • Deadwood PHOBIA, a psychological horror game and the third installment of that zombie trilogy
  • Squid Game Virtuals, a set of group competitions
  • Stranger Things: Catalyst
  • Seekers of the Shard: Dragonfire, a fantasy game where each player picks a hero
  • Age of Dinosaurs, which the company lists as a family pick
  • Rebel Moon: The Descent, Amber Sky 2088, Curse of Davy Jones, Deadwood Valley and Deadwood Mansion

What it costs

Tickets start at $50 per person on weekdays and $55 on weekends. Booking is online, and the venue also sells gift cards.

Finding it inside The Falls

The venue is in Unit 407A, near the Lifetime Fitness center. The company suggests parking in the large lot or the garage at the mall's main entrance off SW 136th Street, entering next to True Food Kitchen, and turning left toward Lifetime Fitness. Sandbox VR sits across the water on the right.
