Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens' car show turns 10 this fall. The 10th Anniversary Sculpture in Motion: The Art of Pre- and Post-War Automobiles fills the gardens at 253 Barcelona Road in West Palm Beach on Saturday, Nov. 14, then sends its cars across the bridge in a parade around the island of Palm Beach.

The day, hour by hour

  • 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: the Community Exhibition, with the cars parked among Ann Norton's sculptures and palms, and group tours led by automotive historians.
  • 3 p.m.: an America's 250 tribute, A Nation Remembers: Songs and Stories of Valor, honoring Gold Star families, veterans and Friends of Fisher House. The Palm Beach Atlantic University Choir sings and a color guard presents the colors. The speaker is retired Rear Adm. Thomas Lynch, a former superintendent of the Naval Academy who captained Navy's 1963 Cotton Bowl team.
  • 4:15 p.m.: the Grand Tour Parade of Cars leaves the main lawn, crosses to Palm Beach, tours the island and finishes at the Flagler Museum.

Five awards, decided by visitors

People who come to the exhibition vote on the winners in five categories: Most Artistic, Most Elegant, People's Choice, Sculptural Speed and the Young Connoisseurs' Award. This year's featured curator is Chuck Mitchell, a collector and restorer whose six garage-restored Packards have won two awards at Pebble Beach and one at Amelia Island.

Car owners who want to join the parade can enter by emailing the gardens with their contact and vehicle details.

The people behind it

The show was founded by Frances and Jeff Fisher and Audrey and Martin Gruss, who co-chair it. Former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux chairs the America's 250 tribute, Amanda and Charles Schumacher are honorary chairs and Jill Shibles chairs the exhibition. The grand marshals are Kathleen and Lew Crampton; Lew Crampton co-founded the parade, led the Cox Science Center and Aquarium as its CEO and has served on the Palm Beach Town Council since 2018.
